Corporations

for this topic the teacher asked us to answer some question according to corporations.

1)Should corporations be entitled to the same legal right as individuals? where should the line be draw?

A/ i think that corporations in this era are getting more power than they should and in a way they need to be treated different because in many times corporations are even bigger than countries not only in size (workers) but in terms of profits, they are becoming little countries with few people controlling them, so there is a need for the countries to controll there power in other means such as restrictions of investment, another law to judge them, so the state have more means to controll what they do in the countries.

2)how can we ensure corporations are held accountable for their actions?

A/ The companies needs to be judge by their actions and the state need to have more restriction and control of them, beacuse in many case corporations are avoiding their responsabilities and are disguising their actions and blinding the people of the true. Companies are getting and asymetric power over the states.
there is now more need to judge with careful the corporations and we should see over the veil of their intentions.

3)Should individuals (directors, employees, shareholders) bear any responsability for the actions of a corporation? if so, to what degree.

A/ everybody is guilty, any director or employee that see when a corporation abused over the people, over a country, even the shareholders should acknowledge that the money they are getting could be tainted of a bad action of a corporation and the explotation of some people, of course i know that the directors or CEO have more responsability because they are the ones that set the principles, actions and vision of the enterprise and also the ones taht make the decision, so yes they should have full responsability because they are not only employees they are also people that should response to their actions.

4) What are the benefits of the corporate form? could an alternative model offer these as well?

A/The corporation are legal entities, that feed of the capitalism form, because of their private ownership, and they can develop their own economic activity to get profits and can became global and depending of their activity could be in almost anywhere ( many activities are only for public sectors), i think that a now there are not alternativev models, and because of the system in which most of the countries are working, this model of corporation could not be change, they are the way in which countries and barriers dissapear to form other organizations within the corporations.

here is a video in which we can  if we doesn't talk the language of the "corporations" or economy in the world, we are frame as people against the system, other thing that show us that there is not alternative model for corporations.

Migration

As many people knows migration is an issue of state, that affects not only the state of destination, but also the state where the people comes from, migration has many consecuences on the countries in which people migrate, such as the use of healthcare, employment issues and in many cases poverty, this mainly happends when the developing countries have migration to other states like USA or EU.

Discrimination is one of the major problems of migration, and we all see in the news many cases when people is beaten even to death because they are from an other country and migrate becuase of the pursuit of dreams or a high quality life; the IOM is the international organization that promotes support and policies for the people that migrates, including refugees.

As you should know about half of the migrants are women, and because of this the IOM has some policies to help the migration of womens, since they are one of the most vulnerable groups, after children, here we can find some policies.

but to remind them easily.

-Break the segreation of sectors of work for women, such as domestic works.
-help to achieve a dependent migrationv (migration with family)
-help the equality of policies between genders because this affects women and men in different ways.

Ubuntu's way

Many people is not aware of the diferent philopshies across the world, and " ubuntu" is one of  their,  born in Africa, Ubuntu is a way of unity in the communities, and for us is very important, especially when managers are going abroad to such places like South Africa when is important to acknowledge the differents kinds of costume in every culture or even in every community.

Ubuntu is the gold key to make sucessfull management in Africa, is the recognition of important links between the people, a enterprise is not only his structure, but the bonds between the people is what make them strong.

boards with the people, the feeling of being include, and the importance of every worker in the enterprise is important for the proper performance of the company, we need to have clear that and enterprise is not only and entity, but the entity is form of people, and his this people who determine the sucess or the failure of the enterprise, and in many ocassions, mergers or join ventures,

So remember the key for a good managerial process in Africa, is the use of the ubuntu philoshopies in every sphere of the life.

Metaphor

the task for this week was to make a creative metaphor for a product in an organization.

the product that i choose is a chocolate candy bar with a sort of coffee flavor, i choose this candy because it focus on a main typical product in which Colombia is identify. "The Colombian flavor in your hand", this metaphor means that any foreigner can be transporter to Colombia with this candy, also this means that the candy has to be really, really good, because if not, can do more harm to the image.

some relevant strategies coud be to make promotions on a kind of lifestyle with coffee and introducing this product like a daily base use, sort of the use of coffee in the morning in most of the world places, also another strategy is to put some photos of Colombian people eating the candy, and not just Colombian, but powerfull and influential people in the world enjoying this candy, such as singers, models, politicians, and so on, so pretty much the strategy is to make the people think that is a product that we should consume in a regular basis.

Pygmalion Effect

This next task is about the pygmalion effect, for those that didn't, pygmalion effect is where a person put an expectation on someone and this person fullfill the expectation. one example we can find it in this Page,
where a teacher put the expectations in a student, and by do it that, the teacher push more harder in his learning getting him to a better development of his skills, and fullfiling the prophecy of his teacher.

but there is also a bad side, in the managerial aspect , when the boss gets a phygmalion effect in a certain worker, and this one achieved little goals, but the manager gets excited and reward him for little advance.

Task 2

The question for today discuss is" With regard to Organizational behaviour, describe the main role that international business managers may play in the negotiation arena and the importance of developing cross cultural management skills".

A fundamental role of international negotiatiors is to achieve a good outcome in the negotiations, but is important the "know how" of dealing with different behaviors in a globalizated world, it's necesary to get to understand differents way of living, mainly with the hierarchy of the importance of some people, one type of people may focus in a more win-lose situation and the other one may think a win-win situation, also we have to take in count if the party is interested in a long term relationship or a one time negotiation; the religious believes of some cultures gives relevance to the way of behave, the proximity in some organizations, and the values that they gives a lot more of importance than us, and last but not least the importance of the vision of any organization when we are dealing whit them, because this will give us a better understanding of his actions, and the possible outcomes the may try to obtain in a negotiaton.

Is a must now days that a negotiator have to be multidiscplinary and have the knoweldge to get involved in cross cultural negotiation whitout interrupt in a offense way or treat the other party without respect, because of this i highly recommend before start any negotiation or make changes in a corporation in another part of the world that we don't know, to have a multicultural team, this will be the first step to get more knowledge and understanding of other cultures.

there is a link of a video of a cultural communication problem that may happend to us, enjoy.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrJTf97Ev8o&feature=related
